International Studies Certificate

Credits, coursework and activities required to complete this course can also be used to earn the prestigious International Studies Certificate at Santa Fe. The certificate requirements are organized into three categories: curriculum, extra-curricular activities and an eportfolio. You may earn extra credit in this class by working toward the certificate and submitting your assignments as a page in your eportfolio. To learn more about the criteria and benefits of the certificate, visit International Studies Certificate webpage on the SF College website.

Curriculum Requirement

The three credits earned in HUM2420: African Humanities will count toward the 12-credit curriculum requirement for the International Studies Certificate at Santa Fe. After successfully completing this course, you will only need to earn nine more credits (or three courses). To review the long list of qualifying courses at SF that can be used to meet this requirement, visit the Curricular Requirements page on the Certificate website.

International Activities Requirements

The criteria also requires students to participate in extra-curricular activities that have an international focus such as guest lectures, film screenings, student club participation, study abroad, and a variety of other options. Each activity is worth a designated number of points, and students must earn at least 70 points to earn the certificate. To review the breakdown of activities and their point value, visit the International Activities page on the Certificate website.

Several extra credit activities included in this course will also count as points toward the certificate.

The final requirement to earn the certificate is to showcase your activities in a digital ePortfolio. For information on creating an ePortfolio and to explore the free software, visit the ePortfolio webpage on the Certificate website.

Online ePortfolios are a great way to showcase yourself when you enter the job market because it provides employers an opportunity to learn more about you than what is offered in a simple resume. By creating the ePortfolio now, you will be able to keep track of your activities as you move through your college career rather than compile everything during your last semester.

Students will receive five extra credit points in this course by creating the ePortfolio and submitting Africa-related activity assignments via a link to the ePortfolio page in the discussion submission. To view examples of Africa-related activities in previous SF student ePortfolios, visit the student pages below.
